4 brand wellness tips

Wellness - it’s a term you usually hear when it comes to our health and wellbeing. It’s all about creating healthy habits, nourishing our bodies and allowing ourselves to thrive; not just survive. So why not apply these same principles to our brands? Your brand should be treated like a living, breathing organism - not an inanimate object. It’s full of so many moving parts that all need to be in harmony in order to flourish. This is a concept that links straight back to my holistic branding approach (read more on that here). So, if you want your brand to start thriving, it’s worth trying out these habits below to improve your brand wellness.

1. Check in with your vision and mission

If you have a brand strategy, I highly recommend checking in with it either once a month or once a quarter! Have a read over your vision, mission, values and brand story. Get reacquainted with it. These are things that should deeply resonate with you as the business owner (and if they don’t? Maybe your brand strategy needs a re-do). I’m assuming you’re super passionate about what you do, but sometimes that passion can dim as we get bogged down with work, admin and the 50 million other tasks that come with being a biz owner. So schedule in this time to find that passion again and re-ignite the flame. Remember your ‘why’, what your business stands for and how it helps people. This will help to put your compass back in the right direction, and get you excited about your brand again.

2. Go over all your visual and written touchpoints

Whether or not you’ve had your branding professionally done, you’re probably in charge of it now. Maybe your designer created some branded templates for you to use, or you’ve downloaded some off Canva. Whatever the case, go back through allllll the content you’ve posted over the last few months. Emails, Instagram posts, print collateral - anything where your branding shows up. Now, refer back to your brand guidelines (if you need professional help with all of this, I’m here for you) and see if your content is representing your brand in the right way. Are you using the correct colours, fonts and logos? What about image styles and brand language? It’s easy for business owners to forget to follow their brand guidelines when they’re rushing to get a post up or an email out, but it’s so important to keep consistent with your branding. Your audience makes first impressions based on your visuals, so they need to be on point. Take a few hours every quarter to update, delete or recreate any templates that might have gone off course. The less templates you have, the easier it is to maintain consistency, so try to keep it simple (more on that in point 4!).

3. Go on a date with your business

One of my absolute favourite brand wellness habits is to date your business. Grab your laptop, head out to a spot you love (for me, it’s a local cafe) and spend some quality time with your biz. The most important part, though? Don’t do any work in your biz - only work on your biz. The point of this date is to get deeper into your business goals and plans. Really romanticise your business. Think about where you want to be in the next weeks, months or years - dream big! Get excited! Devote time to bringing some of those ideas to life that you’ve had floating around for a while. Create a plan to help you move towards your goals. This is a great weekly or fortnightly habit to create. You only need an hour or two to make big progress!

4. Marie Kondo your brand

Who doesn’t love a bit of decluttering? Take some time monthly or quarterly to do a business declutter. Take stock of what’s going on with your brand at the moment. See what’s performing well and what isn’t. Remember that clarity and simplicity is always best, so don’t be afraid to cull! Some good questions to ask: what services/products are you offering? What content types are doing well? What templates (if any) are you using for your business? I did this myself a few months ago and removed two service offerings from my list that just weren’t having the impact I’d hoped. The result? A pared-down, clear list of services that are now performing better because they have a chance to really shine! Try to use this time to make your systems and processes more efficient, too. If you aren’t using any branded templates (for social media, email newsletters or otherwise) consider hitting up your designer to create some for you to help streamline your process and make your brand more consistent.

Try these tips out and see if you notice the difference! Brand wellness (just like holistic branding) is all about treating your biz like a human. After all, brands are created to connect with other humans - so the more we humanise them, the better they become!
